President Muhammadu Buhari has kickstarted the 36th edition of the Lagos International Trade Fair with a promise to continue to provide an enabling environment for businesses, especially manufacturing and export to thrive.
The President observed that Nigeria’s signature of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement, or AfCFTA, would be a tremendous opportunity for the country, as foreign trade registered a surplus of N3.2 trillion between January and June of this year.
He claimed that by actively pursuing value addition and raising the caliber of products made in Nigeria, the public and commercial sectors might work together to improve this situation and increase demand for Nigerian products.
The President, who was represented by Otunba Niyi Adebayo, Minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment, called the Lagos International Trade Fair a great opportunity to highlight the nation’s ability to manufacture to international standards.
On his part, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu commended the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI, organizers of the fair for being an unrelenting partner especially through its policy advocacy which he said has been yielding positive results.
The Governor urged the Chamber to continue to initiate and develop more opportunities for supporting businesses, especially young entrepreneurs, who have the potentials of re-writing Lagos State’s business history and revitalizing Nigeria’s economic fortune.
Over the next ten days, Lagosians and visitors to the State will have the opportunity to shop for consumer goods at subsidize prices at the Fair.
