4 Things to Know As You Start Your Farm Operations
Share

Welcome on board, today we look at some solemn factors you should put in place as you start out your farm operations.

These actions are needed and necessary to ensure your farm runs smoothly day in day out and you make the best use of every opportunity you have.

STUDY YOUR MARKET: It is very necessary to understand the market trends of the sector you are operating in. How do people buy? What do they buy? When do they buy? Does the price of commodities fluctuate? When does it fluctuate? How can you penetrate the market? These and many more you need to understudy about the market. Your success as regards the market will go a long way in determining your overall farm success.

WORK ON ANTI-THEFT: There are good people as well as bad people, if you don’t want to labour for others to eat, you will need to ensure you have measures in place that will minimize or eradicate theft. You can have security cameras or security or any other measure.

KEEP LEARNING: We know you know much, but you will need to keep learning and relearning, in respect to this you still need to have a mentor who you can run to from time to time if need arises.

BIOSECURITY IS A MUST: If you are going into livestock farming, you will need very strong biosecurity measures to prevent disease influx to your farm, even if you are into crop production, do not joke with your biosecurity.

THINK AHEAD: Your farm might be small now, but it will grow, start thinking of the future, make room for more staffs, get your business registered, open a business account, keep records of all activities, leverage on social media and don’t forget to be in the company of like-minded farmers so that you can leverage on their knowledge and network.

That’s it for now, wishing you great farming success.
