Call For Applications: ITTO Fellowship Program(up to $10,000)
Share

Applications are now being accepted for the 2023 ITTO Fellowship Program. Through the Freezailah Fellowship Fund, the International Tropical Timber Organization (ITTO) grants fellowships to advance professional knowledge in tropical forestry and associated fields in member nations.

The objective is to encourage the efficient use of tropical timber in construction and other products, as well as greater economic knowledge about the global trade in tropical timber. More than 1400 young and mid-career individuals from more than 49 countries who work for the government, universities, research institutions, civil society, and the private sector have been given the opportunity to pursue their professional development and enhance their career prospects thanks to the Programme, which started in 1989.

Eligibility

Only citizens of ITTO Member nations may submit an application.
Awards must be given to people, not organizations.
Within two years after obtaining the initial award and submitting to the Secretariat a final report on the activity for which the award was made, previous ITTO Fellowship recipients are not qualified to qualify for another ITTO Fellowship.

Selection Standards

The following selection factors will be considered while evaluating fellowship applications (in no particular order):

  • The planned activity’s compatibility with the program’s goal and priority areas; the applicant’s suitability to carry out the proposed Fellowship activity;
  • the potential for wider applications and benefits both domestically and internationally from the skills and knowledge gained or advanced during the Fellowship activity;
  • Costs are reasonable given the anticipated Fellowship activity.

Additional Factors Will Be Taken Into Account:

gender and geographic parity; equality among the ITTO’s focus areas;
when applicable, proficiency in the language that will be used for the training (such as for courses, conferences, or study tours).

Grant

  • The most that can be awarded as a fellowship is $10,000 USD.
  • The ITTO Fellowships cover the cost of tuition, training, conferences, transportation, daily subsistence, book, and other allowances.
  • Only a portion of the tuition or a minor research grant can be given for postgraduate studies. Fellowships that have been approved cannot be transferred to other schools or programs

Application

The application deadline is Friday, September 1, 2023, at 5 p.m. (JST). The start date for fellowship activities shall not be earlier than January 1, 2024, and the ITTO website will announce the selection panel’s results around November 25, 2023.
