The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) has launched the Connected African Girls Coding Camp since 2020, a series of hybrid boot camps designed to bridge the digital divide and enhance ICT skills for African girls and young women.
In collaboration with host governments, UN Women, and the ITU, the initiative has successfully organized seven hybrid coding camps, reaching a total of 35,000 trainees.
Co-hosted by ECA and the Government of the Republic of Mozambique, the 8th Connected African Girls Hybrid Coding Camp will take place in Chimoio, Mozambique from October 23rd to October 29th, 2023.
This event will bring together over 60 girls from various provinces of Mozambique, Sao Tome and Principe, and Angola. The camp aims to serve girls and women between the ages of 12 and 25, with both in-person attendance and over a thousand online participants from across the continent.
Collaborating with ECA on the event’s organization are the Mozambique Ministry of Science, Technology, and Higher Education, as well as Pungue University. Throughout the boot camp, participants will receive essential technical education and skill training, designed to provide a strong foundation for STEAM education, employment, and entrepreneurship. This effort contributes to Africa’s integration, stimulates inclusive economic growth, promotes job creation, and empowers Africa with modern tools for digital management.
