Vice President Kashim Shettima unveiled ambitious plans during the launch of the Expanded National MSME Clinic in Makurdi, Benue State, marking the inauguration of a nationwide initiative focused on supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs).

The event, held at Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida (IBB) Square, witnessed VP Shettima’s announcement of the federal government’s commitment to nurturing a thriving MSME ecosystem. Highlighting the significance of MSMEs in job creation and economic development, Shettima assured entrepreneurs of unwavering support.

The clinic, part of President Bola Tinubu’s administration initiatives, aims to break barriers hindering MSMEs by providing essential resources. Benue State leads the clinic’s kickoff, with plans for subsequent visits to Ebonyi, Ogun, Delta, Kaduna, Borno, Katsina States, and the Federal Capital Territory in the first half of 2024. The initiative will culminate in the National MSME Awards coinciding with World MSME Day on June 27 in Abuja.

VP Shettima highlighted the federal government’s commitment, mentioning the N75 billion 9% single-digit loan from the Bank of Industry (BOI) and Access Bank’s discounted N50 billion fund as crucial financial support for entrepreneurs. He assured that President Tinubu is resolute in resolving MSME challenges.

Acknowledging Benue State’s entrepreneurial drive, VP Shettima praised the state’s industrious spirit, emphasizing its contributions to agriculture, art, and commerce. He affirmed the clinic’s significance, recognizing it as a tribute to Benue’s unwavering work ethic.

Additionally, Shettima revealed plans for a world-class fashion hub in Makurdi, dedicated to the state’s tailoring cluster, set to be operational within 90 days as a testament to President Tinubu’s commitment to entrepreneurial development.

Governor Hyacinth Alia emphasized Benue State’s open-for-business stance, expressing commitment to empowering MSMEs. He showcased diverse successful MSMEs, commending their contributions to agriculture, healthy living, and cultural heritage.

The event witnessed the presence of several dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor, Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, and heads of key agencies. These agencies offered immediate access to working capital, formalization assistance, export guidance, product certification, and tax advisory services, underscoring the comprehensive support pledged by the government to foster MSME growth.
