Power Africa is a U.S. government-led partnership that brings together the collective resources of over 200 public and private sector partners to double access to electricity in sub-Saharan Africa. Power Africa’s goal is to add more than 30,000 MW of new electricity generation capacity and connect 60 million new homes and businesses across the continent to power by 2030. PA-NPSP is Power Africa’s signature initiative in Nigeria that supports comprehensive power sector reform, a strengthened enabling environment, and increased private sector investment for affordable, reliable and equitable power access in Nigeria.

Elevate: Women’s Solar Installation Certification Course (WSICC) is a three-week training that provides technical/vocational skills for participants to acquire technical skills, sit for the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) Solar Photovoltaic Installation Certification examination, and also participate in Training of Trainers for sustainable transfer of knowledge within marginalized communities.

APPLICATION SEGMENTS

Note: There are two important segments to complete for this application process. Segment 1 is estimated to be completed within 20 minutes to 30 minutes. Segment 2 is timed to be submitted after 20 minutes of opening the competency assessment page.

Segment 1 – Application Form 

Ensure to fill in your accurate information as required and click Submit at the end of the application form.

After clicking Submit, You will be redirected to the submission acknowledgment page, where you will find the link to the competency assessment page. Click this link to complete the second Segment of the application. Note that this application is incomplete if the competency assessment in Segment 2 was not done.

Segment 2 – Competency Assessment

Page 1 of this Segment requires you to input your name and email address. Ensure to use the matching information that you submitted for Segment 1.

Page 2 of this Segment is a Competency Assessment Test. Ensure to complete and submit this assessment within 20 minutes.

TARGET AUDIENCE

  • Women in energy sector seeking to transition into/advance in solar energy technical fields
  • Women outside the energy sector but interested in entering the sector and taking up technical roles in the renewable energy subsector

APPLICATION PROCESS

To successfully complete the application, applicants must:

  • Complete their application within five days of the launch of the application link or before 30 successful candidates are reached.
  • Answer basic competency questions including but not limited to arithmetic and logical reasoning.
  • Submit only one application, as multiple applications will be disqualified.
  • Provide the name and contact information of at least one referee (supervisor or mentor) who can attest to the candidate’s interest, commitment, and suitability for the training in the application form.

SELECTION CRITERIA

Applicants will be selected on a first-come-first-served basis using the following criteria:

  • Successful and timely submission of the application form will be used for screening.
  • Score at least 70 percent on the competency test
  • Applicants must be committed to transferring knowledge and skills to others by implementing training in their place of work or community after the course.
  • Applicants must take a compulsory COREN certification examination at the end of the training. This certification examination will be conducted during the last week of the three-week training.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum educational qualification: Senior School Certificate Exam (SSCE).
  • Possess the ability to understand, read, speak, and write basic English Language.
  • Possess the ability to solve basic arithmetic (Science/Engineering background or experience is an added advantage but not compulsory).
  • Basic computer skills/literacy to take computer-based examinations.

ELIGIBILITY:

To apply to this course, you must be:

  • A Nigerian woman who is available to attend a three-week (Monday to Friday) training in Abuja from 4 March – 22 March 2024. 9 am to 4 pm daily.
  • 18 years and above.
  • Employed or self-employed in the energy sector OR unemployed and interested in entering the energy sector.
  • Interested in learning and implementing new technical skills within the clean energy sector.
DEADLINE
The application deadline for this training is Monday, 19 February 2024, at 12:00 pm WAT. Successful applicants will be notified on or before Monday, 26 February 2024.

Women requiring accessibility support, including but not limited to women with disabilities, are encouraged to apply.
