Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has directed that food products at the “Ounje Eko” food markets be sold at a discount across all five divisions of Lagos, starting from Sunday, March 17.
The directive, announced by the state Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, entails a 25% discount on staple food items such as rice, beans, gari, bread, eggs, tomatoes, and pepper.
To prevent malpractices and ensure equitable distribution, a voucher system will be introduced for the pilot scheme. Independent payment solution providers and selected food vendors will oversee the process, providing real-time data for monitoring.
The markets, spread across 27 locations in Ikeja; six in Lagos Island; nine in Ikorodu; five in Epe; and 10 in Badagry divisions, aim to enhance accessibility to affordable food items for Lagosians.
Detailed price lists for various staple food items have been made available through multiple media channels, ensuring transparency in the process. Governor Sanwo-Olu urges cooperation from residents in monitoring the initiative and providing feedback through official Lagos State Government channels.
