The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has cautioned establishments like schools, supermarkets, and hotels against charging in foreign currency within Nigeria.
Ola Olukoyede, EFCC Chairman, delivered the warning, stressing that dollarization within the country would be treated as a criminal offense under Nigerian laws.
Olukoyede emphasized the EFCC’s commitment to prosecuting offenders and highlighted recent arrests made in connection with dollar transactions.
He underscored the importance of businesses documenting foreign transactions properly and operating within the local economy’s legal framework.
The EFCC aims to eradicate illegal forex trading and ensure currency traders comply with regulations, aligning with the Central Bank of Nigeria’s efforts.
Olukoyede condemned the glorification of criminals in Nigeria and called for public support in combating corruption.
He urged the establishment of special courts to expedite corruption cases, emphasizing their vital role in Nigeria’s development and urging legislative support for this initiative.
