Ekiti State Secures $110,000 Funding from AfDB for Electricity Priority Plan
Share

The African Development Bank (AfDB) has announced the approval of $110,000 in funding for Ekiti State to support the development of its State Electricity Priority Plan (SEPP). This funding, secured from the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), aims to facilitate the establishment of the Power Sector Reform Desk within the state’s Ministry for Infrastructure and Public Utilities.

Prof. Bolaji Aluko, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Infrastructure and Public Utilities, revealed that the funding approval was made possible after the state requested a grant to mainstream decentralized renewable energy solutions. The initiative, part of the Africa Energy Sector Technical Assistance Program (AESTAP), will sponsor three delegates from the state to participate in a hybrid training course on power sector regulation at the Africa School of Regulation (ASR). Additionally, consultancy services will be provided to support the establishment of the Power Sector Reform Desk.

Aluko emphasized the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring a steady supply of electricity, potable water, responsive fire services, and an efficient telecommunication system in the state. The funding from AfDB underscores the importance of supporting initiatives that promote sustainable energy solutions and address the infrastructure needs of communities.
