Share

We are an Acceleration program focusing on growth and mature stage African healthcare companies, conceptualized in response to the COVID-19 pandemic and in a realization of the potential of local private sector solutions to strengthen the continent’s pandemic resilience. The selected companies will receive highly customized advisory support delivered by a world class panel of experts. This Acceleration program is augmented with a supporting network of organizations that includes the likes of World Food Programme, Africa CDC, GIZ, Rwandan Development Board, CSIR, AAIC, Ecobank Foundation, Aga Khan Foundation, World Health Organization, UNIDO, Afreximbank and others.

We will work in collaboration with your team to design and deliver a customized, five-month acceleration roadmap, to support your company’s specific growth needs across three key areas: context-specific advisory, investor readiness and matching to strategic partners.

We are co-founded by the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD) and are financially supported by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

 3 application criteria

We have 3 application criteria you will have to meet to be considered for our third cohort:

  • You are a growth or mature stage company, meaning you must …

Be registered as a for-profit entity
Demonstrate clear market traction and a sizable customer base
Express ambition and potential to scale beyond your current size

  • You strengthen Africa’s health system, for example …

You manufacture medical consumables or devices on the continent
You provide healthcare services to patients, be it diagnostic, treatment or otherwise
You provide technology solutions to strengthen health access or delivery

  • You can be described as a Home Grown Solution, meaning you must …

Operate mainly or solely in Africa (preference for companies operating across countries)
Employ mostly local staff in the markets in which you are active
Have strong African representation in your leadership

How will we help you?

We will work shoulder-to-shoulder with your team to design and deliver a customized, five-month acceleration roadmap in 2024, to support your company’s specific growth needs across three key areas.

Context-specific advisory – We have a team of world-class consultants to diagnose your business needs and deliver tailor-made business advisory services.

Investment readiness support – We help you be better prepared for fundraising including business model validation, pitch preparation, and linking you to capital needed to scale.

Matching to strategic partners – We will leverage our network and introduce you to leading organizations to grow your business through partnership.

As part of the third cohort, you will receive this unique offering for your business while shaping this acceleration program for fellow African businesses in the future. After this period and as a future alumnus of the accelerator, you will continue to have access to our unique and growing network of peers, advisors, mentors, and potential partners.

Application Process

You can apply for the Accelerator using the form below, with a deadline set on the 14th of May 2024. After the submission deadline, shortlisted companies will be asked to provide references of investors and customers and additional high-level information on their finances during May/June 2024. Final decision making will happen in July 2024, with Acceleration support definition and delivery to occur between July and November 2024.
