During the 2024 Ministerial Briefing, Lagos State Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, revealed that the state government has disbursed ₦849,555,000 in scholarships and bursaries to 10,066 students in its tertiary institutions.

The event, held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, Alausa, Ikeja, highlighted the government’s commitment to providing effective and affordable education to residents of the state.

Sule emphasized the administration’s dedication to education development, showcasing the T.H.E.M.E.S plus Agenda. Notably, Lagos State-owned tertiary institutions maintained operational continuity, abstaining from strikes observed in other institutions.

The commissioner expressed pride in the government’s achievements, noting the progress of both longstanding and newer institutions. The briefing, ongoing since April 24, aims to evaluate ministries’ performance during Governor Sanwo-Olu’s second term.

Detailing the disbursements, Sule specified ₦335,600,000 for scholarships and ₦513,955,000 for bursaries, benefiting undergraduates, PhD recipients, and law school students. The funds were allocated in the year 2023, with a total of 10,066 students benefiting.

Additionally, the state government is investing in promoting a reading culture by rehabilitating and digitalizing 300 secondary schools and 40 public libraries. Monthly allocations ensure the seamless operation of digitalized libraries in secondary schools.

Addressing admission age criteria, Sule clarified that 16 years remains the admissible age into all Lagos State-owned tertiary institutions, emphasizing the government’s strategic planning for educational success.
