OPay Launches Nightguard Feature to Enhance Financial Security
Share

In response to growing concerns about financial security, OPay has introduced a groundbreaking feature called Nightguard, aimed at providing enhanced protection for users’ finances, especially during vulnerable hours.

Traditionally, financial services have relied on two-factor authentication methods such as USSD strings and one-time passwords (OTPs) to secure transactions. However, with the increase in illicit financial activities and fraud, there has been a clear need for more robust security measures. OPay is addressing this need with its innovative Nightguard feature, which is a first-of-its-kind in the financial industry.

The **Nightguard** feature is designed to safeguard users’ accounts during late-night hours—specifically between **11:00 PM and 7:00 AM**—a period when people are more likely to be asleep or engaged in activities that might make them less vigilant about their financial transactions. During this timeframe, any transfer attempt on the OPay platform requires enhanced identity verification, specifically **facial recognition**. This added layer of security ensures that even if someone gains unauthorized access to a user’s account, they would not be able to complete transactions without passing the facial recognition check.

Dauda Gotring, CEO of OPay Nigeria, highlighted the importance of this feature, stating, “The Nightguard feature represents a significant advancement in Nigeria’s mobile payment landscape, offering users a robust tool to secure their financial transactions. As the leader in the fintech industry in Nigeria, OPay is committed to placing control firmly in the hands of its customers, ensuring that they have the power to safeguard their finances.”

The introduction of Nightguard demonstrates OPay’s commitment to customer security and satisfaction. The feature not only provides a strong incentive for users to download and use the OPay app but also offers peace of mind to those who are particularly concerned about the security of their funds during late-night hours. With Nightguard, OPay users can rest easy knowing that their finances are protected, even while they sleep.
