President Bola Tinubu has approved a N10 billion Youth Development Fund to support youth empowerment initiatives across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). The fund, announced by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike on Monday, aligns with the federal government’s commitment to fostering opportunities for young people in the region.
Wike disclosed the initiative while inaugurating upgrades for the War College/Army Checkpoint Road and other roads in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council, Abuja. He shared that the youth empowerment program, set to launch on Thursday, is part of a broader youth development policy aimed at driving economic growth and creating jobs.
In his remarks, Wike highlighted the president’s efforts in prioritizing youth development by establishing both the Women Affairs Secretariat and the Youth Development Secretariat, headed by a young appointee. “This has never happened in the history of the FCT,” Wike noted, emphasizing the administration’s commitment to youth advancement.
He further urged FCT residents to support this initiative, emphasizing the potential of the fund to bring significant positive change. “For a start, Mr. President has approved N10 billion to see how the youth will be empowered. We are happy there are signs that things will get better,” he added, noting that this investment forms part of the FCT’s supplementary budget.
