The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (OSGF) has launched the National Volunteer Database alongside the National Policy on Inclusive Volunteerism to foster civic engagement and national development. The launch event, held in Abuja, underscores the government’s commitment to mobilizing Nigerians for volunteerism.
Olubunmi Olorunpomi, head of communications for Natview Technology, emphasized that this initiative is a collaboration aimed at supporting the country’s sustainable development goals through a digital platform. He stated, “The National Volunteer Database is designed to provide Nigerians with streamlined access to volunteer opportunities that contribute to socio-economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social solidarity.” The platform allows users to register easily and match their skills and interests with relevant volunteer roles.
The National Policy on Inclusive Volunteerism, approved by the Federal Executive Council in December 2020, provides a structured framework for volunteer engagement across multiple sectors, including health, education, and environmental initiatives. Managed by the Nigerian National Volunteer Service (NNVS), the policy aims to empower individuals and communities while fostering collaboration for national progress.
Key features of the National Volunteer Database include listings of community projects from NGOs and agencies, built-in communication tools for volunteers and project organizers, and impact assessment mechanisms to evaluate project outcomes. The government expects this initiative to strengthen community bonds and promote civic responsibility among citizens.
Mr. Nuradeen Maidoki, CEO of Natview Technology, highlighted the platform’s potential for Nigerian youth, stating, “Many young Nigerians want to volunteer but don’t know where to start. We are excited about this web platform, as it will offer a comprehensive database of volunteer opportunities for them.”
