The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd) has increased crude oil production to 1.8 million barrels per day (mbpd)and gas production to 7.4 standard cubic feet per day (scfd), marking a significant milestone in its operations. Announcing the achievement during a press briefing on Thursday, NNPC Ltd attributed the progress to the directives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the collaborative efforts of various stakeholders.
Leadership Commends the Efforts
Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Ltd, Mr. Mele Kyari, congratulated the Production War Room Team for leading the recovery process.
“The team has done a great job not just in recovering production but also in escalating it to levels that align with our short- and long-term goals as mandated by the President, the Honourable Minister, and the Board,” Kyari stated.
Production Recovery Timeline
The Chief War Room Coordinator, Mr. Lawal Musa, detailed how production was restored through joint efforts with partners, including Joint Venture and Production Sharing Contract entities, government agencies, and private security groups.
– June 2024: Production stood at 1.43 mbpd when the Production War Room was inaugurated.
-August 2024: Sustained recovery efforts increased production to 1.7 mbpd.
– November 2024: Output rose to the current level of 1.808 mbpd.
Musa expressed optimism about reaching 2 mbpd by year-end, emphasizing the critical role of security agencies in protecting pipelines and ensuring operational efficiency.
Support from Key Stakeholders
Chairman of the NNPC Ltd Board of Directors, Pius Akinyelure, praised the team’s efforts and urged the management to develop a cash flow projection based on the new figures.
“I leave here with my heart full of joy,” he said, expressing hopes for future production increases to 3 mbpd. Similarly, Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, Honourable Minister of State for Petroleum (Oil), lauded the team’s performance and reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting NNPC Ltd in achieving its production targets. NNPC Ltd’s achievements in oil and gas production reflect the company’s dedication to delivering on its mandate while strengthening Nigeria’s energy sector. With collaborative efforts and security measures in place, the company remains optimistic about surpassing its production goals in the near future.
