President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to positioning Nigeria as a leading exporter of agricultural products by 2025. Speaking at the ‘Road to South-South National Convergence for Renewed Hope Agenda’ event in Abuja on Tuesday, Tinubu outlined the strategic blueprint that places the agriculture-rich South-South region at the heart of the nation’s economic revival.
Represented by Abubakar Momoh, Minister of Regional Development, the President emphasized the region’s abundant natural resources and human potential as key drivers for economic transformation. He highlighted the importance of focusing on agriculture, which he believes holds greater promise than oil and gas for the nation’s future prosperity.
Tinubu’s vision includes the ‘Earn from the Soil’ initiative, a food security program aimed at transforming Nigeria’s subsistence farming sector into a dynamic, export-driven industry. This initiative, according to the President, will not only revolutionize agriculture but also ensure national food security.
“My administration is committed to ensuring that by 2025, Nigeria will be recognized as a global agricultural export leader. We will support the necessary steps to make this vision a reality,” Tinubu said.
Gift Johnbull, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Community Engagement in the South-South, underscored the importance of collective effort in realizing this vision. She called on investors, business leaders, policymakers, youth, women, and development partners to join forces in unlocking the South-South’s untapped agricultural potential, benefiting not just Nigeria but the entire African continent.
The convergence serves as a rallying point for stakeholders to shape policies that drive inclusive growth and sustainable development, with the President’s vision of agricultural dominance in global markets as a central goal.
