The Aurora Tech Award, a global recognition initiated by inDrive, a mobility platform, has unveiled its 2025 list of top female founders.

The award, which honors innovative women entrepreneurs, showcases groundbreaking ventures that are shaping industries across the globe.

In a statement on Wednesday, the organizers said Nigeria took the lead, “with 21 outstanding female entrepreneurs selected from a pool of 2,018 applications spanning 116 countries”.

According to them, Brazil and the United States closely followed, while other countries like Egypt, Colombia, Kenya, India, Kazakhstan, and the United Kingdom were also represented.

Isabella Ghassemi-Smith, head of the Aurora Tech Awards, stated that the 120 women were selected for their “bold and innovative businesses” and are expected to impact their industries and countries in 2025.

“The Aurora Top 120 is a first for us this year, created from a three-month open call that attracted over 2,000 applications from female founders,” she said.

“Through a rigorous selection process, we’ve identified 120 standout women entrepreneurs who are building bold and innovative businesses in emerging markets.

“These founders are poised to shape the future of their industries and countries, making them the ones to watch in 2025”

The award organizers said the sectors that dominated the nomination list included health tech, agrotech, edtech, and e-commerce, with African countries particularly leading in agrotech.

The top finalists are expected to be announced in February 2025, and the award ceremony is scheduled to take place between March and May. Aurora Tech Awards said this year’s winner will receive a $30,000 cash prize. The selected entrepreneurs can be found here.
