IFC Invests $50 Million in Lagos Free Zone to Boost Nigeria’s Industrial and Economic Growth
Share

The International Finance Corporation (IFC), a member of the World Bank Group, has committed $200 million to Ameriabank, Armenia’s largest financial institution, to strengthen micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), support women-led businesses, and advance climate-focused initiatives.

Strategic Allocation of Funds

– 50%  will finance climate-friendly projects, aiding Armenia’s transition to a low-carbon economy.

– 25% will address the $1.1 billion financing gap faced by general MSMEs.

– 25% will empower women-led MSMEs by overcoming barriers to capital access.

This investment is set to create thousands of jobs and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by nearly 40,000 tons annually—equivalent to removing over 9,000 gasoline-powered cars from the roads.

“This partnership reflects our shared vision of addressing climate change, empowering women entrepreneurs, and promoting sustainable growth,” said Artak Hanesyan, CEO of Ameriabank.

The initiative aligns with Armenia’s goal of achieving a low-carbon economy by 2035 and advancing the Green Taxonomy framework, which sets a regional benchmark for sustainable finance.

By targeting MSME growth, women’s economic empowerment, and climate action, this investment positions Ameriabank as a leader in sustainable finance and economic transformation in Armenia
