The Nigerian government has launched the ‘DeepTech_Ready Upskilling’ program to equip young Nigerians with advanced skills in data science and artificial intelligence (AI). The initiative, announced by the minister of communications, innovation, and digital economy, is part of efforts to strengthen the 3 Million Technical Talent (3MTT) program, which aims to position Nigeria as a leading hub for digital skills and development.
The programme is backed by Google through a N2.8 billion grant dedicated to training young Nigerians in AI-related fields. Participants will undergo a six-month training that blends self-paced learning, on-site sessions, and online support. The curriculum includes advanced data analysis, data science and machine learning, data architecture, geospatial data science, and computer vision. Other key areas of focus are natural language processing and advanced machine learning techniques.
According to the programme’s website, the training is open to 3MTT fellows as well as individuals with basic to intermediate knowledge in relevant technical fields. This initiative is expected to boost Nigeria’s digital economy by developing a skilled workforce ready to leverage AI and data science in various industries.
