AACE Foods Processing and Distribution Limited has launched a groundbreaking training program to equip smallholder farmers and agro-transporters in Nigeria with the skills needed to reduce food waste, improve sustainability, and enhance food security.
This initiative aims to address critical challenges in Nigeria’s agricultural sector by promoting sustainable practices, minimizing post-harvest losses, and strengthening the economic resilience of farmers. Through capacity building, knowledge sharing, and innovative techniques, AACE Foods seeks to create long-term solutions for food loss while fostering a more robust agricultural value chain.
Agriculture remains the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, yet food loss and waste continue to threaten national food security. The newly introduced program will educate participants on best agricultural practices, emphasizing improved handling, storage, and processing methods to prevent food spoilage. By equipping farmers with modern techniques, AACE Foods aims to enhance productivity, increase profitability, and support the country’s food system sustainability.
Beyond reducing waste, the initiative prioritizes food security and improved nutrition within local communities. By ensuring that more food reaches consumers in optimal condition, the program will contribute to better health outcomes while boosting economic opportunities for those within the agricultural sector.
Impact on Farmers and the Agricultural Ecosystem
The training program is expected to have far-reaching effects, including:
– Increased awareness and adoption of sustainable agricultural practices.
– Significant reductions in food loss and waste across Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.
– Strengthened collaboration among key stakeholders, fostering a more efficient food system.
– Improved food security and nutrition in participating communities.
“Agriculture is at the heart of Nigeria’s economy, and reducing food loss and waste is critical to achieving food security,” said Gloria Nwabuike, Managing Director of AACE ,
Foods Processing and Distribution Limited. “This training initiative demonstrates our commitment to equipping farmers and agro-transporters with the tools and knowledge needed to drive sustainable growth, strengthen livelihoods, and enhance resilience in Nigeria’s agricultural value chain.”
As part of the initiative, 2,500 Lead Farmers and 50 Agro Transporters will undergo training, enabling them to mentor an additional 7,500 farmers. Ultimately, over 10,000 farmers—including a significant number of women—are expected to benefit from the program.
“This initiative reflects our dedication to strengthening Nigeria’s food systems, promoting sustainability, and empowering local communities,” Nwabuike concluded.
