Google will increase the cost of its 100GB Google Drive storage plan for Nigerian users from ₦950 to ₦1,900 per month, starting March 28, 2025. The annual subscription will also rise from ₦9,500 to ₦19,000. This price hike, which effectively doubles the current cost, follows Google’s earlier announcement of price increases in select countries, including Egypt, Ghana, and Tanzania.
In a notification to customers, Google stated that the new price would take effect automatically unless users canceled their subscriptions. Google One, the company’s cloud storage service, provides extra space for Google Drive, Gmail, and Google Photos. With the growing reliance on cloud storage for both personal and professional use, the increase could impact users who back up essential documents, photos, and files.
While Google has not given a spicific reason for the price adjustment, factors such as rising operational costs and currency exchange rate fluctuations are likely contributors. The devaluation of the naira and inflation in Nigeria have led several multinational companies to adjust their pricing.
This latest hike follows a wave of price increases across various sectors. In January, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) approved a tariff adjustment for telecommunications operators, leading MTN and Airtel to raise their rates. Similarly, Multichoice, the provider of DStv and GOtv, has increased its subscription fees by up to 21%.
As the new pricing takes effect, Nigerian users may need to reassess their storage plans and consider alternative solutions before the March 28 deadline.
