Moniepoint Expands Women in Tech Programme to Bridge Gender Gap in Tech
Share

Moniepoint Inc. has expanded its Women in Tech programme, increasing its internship slots from 10 to 15 in a bid to address the gender imbalance in Nigeria’s technology sector. The initiative, designed to equip women with hands-on experience and career opportunities in tech, reinforces the company’s commitment to fostering diversity in the industry.

The selected interns, referred to as the Dream 15, will embark on a six-month journey across various technical fields, including cloud engineering, backend engineering, data engineering, systems administration, technical product management, technical support, and user experience. Participants will receive direct mentorship, work tools, branded merchandise, a competitive salary, and the potential for full-time employment based on performance.

Chinaza Nduka-Dike, Moniepoint’s vice president of People Operations, emphasized the significance of the programme, stating, “With the Women in Tech initiative, we are not just inspiring inclusion, we are actively creating sustainable pathways for women to thrive in the tech industry. Diversity fuels innovation, and through programmes like this, we are empowering women to take on leadership roles, develop critical skills, and shape the future of technology.”

The Women in Tech programme has already made a notable impact by providing mentorship, training, and exposure to real-world projects, ensuring more women play an active role in the technology landscape.

Data from the Nigerian Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows that although women make up nearly half of Nigeria’s population, they represent only 25 percent of the tech workforce, despite accounting for 22 percent of STEM graduates annually. These figures underscore the importance of initiatives like Women in Tech, which equip young women with the skills and opportunities needed to contribute meaningfully to Africa’s digital economy.

As Moniepoint continues to champion inclusion in tech, the expansion of this programme represents a step toward closing the gender gap and fostering a more diverse and innovative technology sector in Nigeria.
