Flutterwave has received approval from the Bank of Ghana to provide inward remittance services, enabling seamless and secure money transfers into the country. This milestone strengthens the company’s position as a key player in Africa’s digital payments ecosystem, offering businesses and individuals more efficient financial solutions.
The approval builds on Flutterwave’s previous regulatory achievements in Ghana, including the Enhanced Payment Service Provider Licence obtained in August 2024. That licence allowed the company to provide direct merchant acquiring, electronic money issuance, and third-party payment services. With the latest authorization, Flutterwave can now offer end-to-end payment solutions in Ghana, reducing reliance on intermediaries and improving transaction efficiency.
Ghana’s digital payment landscape continues to expand, driven by a tech-savvy population and a mobile internet penetration rate of 71%. The market is projected to reach $7 billion in 2024, with an expected annual growth rate of 15.78%, pushing total transaction value to nearly $13 billion by 2028. Flutterwave’s entry comes at a time when businesses and consumers increasingly seek secure and convenient payment options.
The company’s expansion into Ghana aligns with its broader African growth strategy. In 2024, Flutterwave entered Mozambique, securing approval-in-principle for a payment aggregator licence from the Bank of Mozambique. Earlier this year, it also obtained a Payment System Licence from the Bank of Zambia, facilitating both local and international transactions. With operations now spanning over 35 countries, Flutterwave continues to strengthen its role as a leader in digital finance across Africa.
By expanding its payment infrastructure, Flutterwave aims to enhance financial inclusion, support cross-border trade, and provide innovative solutions tailored to the evolving needs of African businesses and consumers.
