The British American Tobacco Nigeria (BATN) Foundation has partnered with the University of Ilorin to award a total of N9 million to six exceptional graduates under its 2025 Graduate Agripreneur Programme (GAP). Each recipient received N1.5 million to support the growth of their agribusiness ventures.

Speaking at the award ceremony held at the university’s Faculty of Agriculture, BATN Foundation’s General Manager, Oludare Odusanya, described the initiative as part of the Foundation’s ongoing mission to empower young Nigerians who are redefining agriculture with bold and transformative ideas. He praised the University of Ilorin as a vibrant hub of innovation and entrepreneurial spirit.

The six awardees: Abdulahi Ayomide, Aliu Olamilekan, Uthman Oladipo, Olorunmaiye Cynthia, Iliyas Elijah Danladi, and John Olumide Adeyemi—emerged after a competitive selection process that emphasized originality, sustainability, and real-world impact. Beyond the financial support, the programme also provides tailored mentorship and long-term guidance from experts in agriculture and business.

Top officials of the university, including Vice Chancellor Prof Wahab Egbewole, Registrar M.A. Alfanla, and other senior faculty members, were present at the event. Egbewole described the grant as a significant contribution to youth empowerment and national development, applauding the BATN Foundation’s commitment to building a new generation of agripreneurs.

One of the winners, Olorunmaiye Cynthia, expressed her appreciation, stating that the grant represented more than just funding, it was the fuel for a broader dream of transforming Nigeria’s agricultural sector.

The GAP initiative forms part of the BATN Foundation’s wider strategy to collaborate with universities and stakeholders to advance agribusiness and enhance food security nationwide.
