Canon Central and North Africa has joined forces with Women in Successful Careers (WISCAR) to advance the inclusion and empowerment of women in Nigeria’s creative industries. The partnership reflects the 2025 International Women’s Day theme, “Accelerate Action”, highlighting both organisations’ shared commitment to driving meaningful change in sectors where women remain underrepresented.
Announced on Monday, the initiative forms part of Canon’s “Women Who Empower” programme, which is designed to equip women not only with technical skills but also with the confidence, connections, and opportunities to thrive professionally in creative fields like photography, print, and imaging.
According to the Managing Director of Canon Central and North Africa, Somesh Adukia, the initiative goes beyond just skill acquisition. “We believe in the power of creativity to drive change,” he said. “Through ‘Women Who Empower,’ we are not just equipping women with technical skills but also empowering them to build successful careers. Our partnership with WISCAR reflects our unwavering commitment to diversity and the long-term growth of Nigeria’s creative industry.”
Founder and Chairperson of WISCAR, Amina Oyagbola, added that the collaboration has proven effective in breaking long-standing barriers that hinder women’s progress in the imaging and print industries. “Our partnership with Canon has been a resounding success, empowering women to advance in their careers,” she said. “It is a great example of how strategic collaborations can drive meaningful change in industries where women are traditionally underrepresented.”
The initiative underscores the importance of inclusive partnerships in shaping a creative economy where talent not gender determines opportunity. As the Nigerian creative sector continues to grow, efforts like this are expected to create more space for women to thrive, innovate, and lead.
