Many MTN subscribers across Nigeria were left disconnected on Tuesday morning, following a widespread network outage that disrupted calls, text messages, and internet services.
The disruption, which began for some users on Monday night and escalated into the early hours of Tuesday, sparked a wave of frustration on social media platform X. Numerous users voiced their displeasure, with many pointing to the inconvenience and business losses caused by the downtime.
One user blamed the government for failing to hold the telecom provider accountable, stating that such nationwide outages occur because there are “no consequences from the government.” Another described the blackout as part of a broader systemic failure in the country.
The disruption also hit businesses hard. A user lamented the loss of income due to the outage, urging MTN management to urgently address the situation. Some subscribers reported limited access to social media, while others remained completely offline.
In response, MTN’s customer care representative, Adeshola, confirmed via email that the disruption was caused by a technical glitch. She apologized for the inconvenience and assured users that the issue had been resolved.
The incident highlights ongoing concerns about service reliability and accountability among Nigeria’s major telecom providers.
