Dangote Refinery Reduces Petrol Price Below Official Rate

Marketers Fear Business Shutdown, As Dangote Begins petrol, Diesel Distribution Nationwide
Share

The Dangote Petroleum Refinery has made another quiet cut to its petrol price, bringing the cost down to N825 per litre—below the publicly announced N835 per litre—through a post-sale rebate to marketers.

According to sources, while marketers continue to pay N835 upfront, the refinery issues a N10 refund after the successful loading and evacuation of products. This covert rebate system has allowed marketers to retail petrol at slightly lower prices, between N830 and N835 per litre, undercutting importers and private depot owners.

One official explained that although this isn’t officially recognized as a price drop, the rebate effectively lowers the price for those buying directly from the refinery.

This move follows a series of price reductions last month, where the refinery slashed its gantry price twice in one week, dropping from N880 to N835 per litre. These adjustments came after the resumption of the Naira-for-Crude supply deal between the federal government and local refiners.

Attempts to obtain an official comment from Dangote Group spokesperson Anthony Chiejina were unsuccessful.
