In a remarkable show of corporate responsibility and grassroots development, Multisub Energy Limited, in collaboration with the Olure Host Communities Development Trust (OHCDT), on Wednesday, June 11, extended financial support to 70 individuals in its host communities in Warri North Local Government Area of Delta State. The initiative benefited 40 women engaged in various forms of microenterprise, each receiving ₦200,000 to strengthen their businesses, while 30 undergraduate students were awarded ₦150,000 each in bursary support to ease the burden of educational expenses.
The dual-purpose initiative, titled “Support for Women in Microenterprise (SWIM) and the Bursary Grants for Undergraduates,” took place in Koko, the administrative headquarters of Warri North. It reflects Multisub Energy’s strategic commitment to human capital development, women’s economic empowerment, and youth education in the communities surrounding its operational field, PPL – 218.
Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, Dr. Igho Okotete, Chairman and Managing Director of Multisub Energy Limited, commended the pace of development championed by OHCDT, stating that this empowerment effort is a continuation of the quick-impact projects recently executed by the Trust. These earlier projects include the renovation and furnishing of Abonkuwa Primary School, the construction of walkways in Eghoro community, and the installation of 70 solar streetlights in Ikeyan and Safa Ogbin communities.
Dr. Okotete, represented by Mr. Thomas Akagbosu, General Manager of Administration and Corporate Social Responsibility, reaffirmed the company’s belief in women as agents of change. “When you empower a woman, you empower a nation,” he noted, adding that the financial grants and business training are designed to increase household income, promote economic stability, and enhance the wellbeing of the wider community.
The bursary support for students is also a strategic component of the company’s five-year community development plan, aimed at investing in future generations. According to the company, the plan was formulated based on a comprehensive needs assessment carried out in the host communities. The goal is to build capacity among youth and promote sustainable development through education and entrepreneurship.
In a goodwill message, Mr. Ena Agbro, Chief Operating Officer of Multisub Energy Limited, applauded OHCDT and community leaders for their cooperation and peaceful engagement, which continue to create a supportive environment for sustainable operations. He stressed the company’s dedication to doing business responsibly, ensuring safety and environmental stewardship while prioritizing community development.
The event also drew the attention of regulatory bodies. Representatives of the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC), Chief (Engr.) Ogunnubi Benjamin, represented by Engr. Okundia Kingsley and Mrs. Akpojisheri Felicia, praised the initiative and encouraged the beneficiaries to make wise use of the grants. The NUPRC highlighted the effort as a model of how oil and gas operators can contribute meaningfully to host community development.
Local government representatives were equally supportive. Hon. Festus Ashima, Chairman of Warri North Local Government Area, represented by Mr. Monday Ogboko, lauded the company’s contributions and assured them of continued support and a conducive environment for investment.
The voices of gratitude were loud among the beneficiaries. Ughamiyemi Eyefuijirin from Eghoro Community and Ariri Patience from Ikeyan Community, speaking on behalf of the women, expressed deep appreciation to Multisub Energy and OHCDT for what they described as a life-changing gesture. The bursary recipients also thanked the organizers for relieving them of financial pressure and enabling them to focus more on their studies.
