Katsina Government Begins Free Drug Distribution to Boost Healthcare Access
Share

The Katsina State Government has launched the distribution of free medical supplies to secondary health facilities across all 34 local government areas as part of efforts to improve healthcare access for residents, particularly vulnerable groups.

The initiative was flagged off at the Katsina State Drugs and Medical Supplies Agency (DMSA) headquarters by the State Commissioner of Health, who reiterated the government’s commitment to enhancing healthcare delivery. He said the administration of Governor Dikko Radda remains focused on the health and wellbeing of the people, especially the less privileged.

He urged beneficiary hospitals to manage the medical supplies efficiently, ensuring they are used effectively to serve patients.

The Executive Secretary of DMSA, who coordinated the supply process, explained that the government fully funded the purchase of the essential drugs, which are being distributed to hospitals free of charge. The supplies include anti-malarial medications, delivery and cesarean packs, dialysis support materials, and antenatal care kits.

She added that under the scheme, free treatment will be offered to children under five, pregnant women, and victims of road traffic accidents.

The first phase of the rollout has already commenced with deliveries to General Hospital Katsina, General Hospital Musawa, Turai Yar’Adua Maternity Hospital, and Turai Yar’Adua Children Hospital.

The free healthcare distribution programme is one of several steps the Katsina State Government is taking to reduce the financial burden of medical care on residents while expanding access to quality services.
