FG Empowers 3,700 Women Through Queen Rider Tricycle Ownership Scheme

The Federal Government, through the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP), has expanded the Queen Rider programme—an ambitious initiative aimed at economically empowering Nigerian women by enabling them to own and operate tricycles through credit-backed financing.

The programme targets at least 100 women in each state and the Federal Capital Territory, totalling 3,700 beneficiaries across the country. It falls under CREDICORP’s S.C.A.L.E. initiative (Securing Consumer Access for Local Enterprises), which seeks to connect consumers with Nigeria’s manufacturing base.

In collaboration with Gamma Mobility, the project facilitates women’s access to locally assembled tricycles produced by Simba TVS, a company with a daily output of 1,170 tricycles and motorcycles in Nigeria. Accion Microfinance Bank and other partner financial institutions are also playing a key role in ensuring access to affordable, structured credit.

CREDICORP’s Managing Director, Uzoma Nwagba, described the initiative as more than a mobility solution, calling it a vehicle for dignity, independence, and economic opportunity. “These tricycles are not just vehicles,” Nwagba said. “They represent ownership, autonomy, and agency for women—delivered through structured, affordable credit and made in Nigeria. We are striving for household dignity and industrial growth at the same time.”

By increasing demand for Nigerian-made vehicles, the programme also supports the country’s broader industrial goals, ensuring that each loan not only supports a woman’s livelihood but also strengthens domestic production.

The Queen Rider scheme is part of CREDICORP’s larger vision to provide consumer credit to half of Nigeria’s workforce by 2030. Other programmes under this vision include YouthCRED, which targets young people and NYSC members, and C.A.L.M, which supports clean energy and compressed natural gas adoption.

According to Nwagba, the initiative is in line with President Bola Tinubu’s longstanding commitment to expanding consumer credit. “The President is a man who has been very passionate about consumer credit for many decades,” he said. “It is his idea that people should be able to access goods and services that improve their lives and pay for them over time.”

Sam Esiri, Co-Founder of Gamma Mobility, said the Queen Rider programme is a declaration of women’s right to access the tools for economic empowerment. “This is not just a product launch,” he stated. “It is a resolute proclamation that Nigerian women deserve unhindered access to dignity, purpose, and prosperity.”

One of the beneficiaries, Mrs. Elizabeth John, expressed gratitude to CREDICORP and its partners. She promised that the beneficiaries would seize the opportunity to transform their lives and build better futures.
