Federal Government Launches Digital Platform for Citizens to Report Housing Fraud
Share

The Federal Government has launched a digital portal that enables Nigerians to report fraudulent activities in housing estates, submit evidence, and track the progress of their complaints. The initiative, managed by the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, is designed to improve transparency and accountability in the real estate sector.

The platform, accessible via https://reports.fmhud.gov.ng, offers citizens a safe and user-friendly way to raise concerns about fraudulent dealings in housing estates nationwide. Complaints submitted through the portal will be reviewed by the Ministry in partnership with professional bodies, law enforcement agencies, and the judiciary.

Officials explained that the initiative aligns with the National Housing Policy, which calls for stricter regulation of the housing industry, certification of estate developers, and protection of citizens from fraudulent actors. It also reinforces the need for stronger administrative and legal frameworks to monitor housing delivery and ensure all professionals in the built environment are properly registered.

In addition to the fraud reporting platform, the Ministry introduced the Contract Performance and Compliance Project Monitoring System (CPCPMS) to strengthen oversight of housing projects. The system allows real-time monitoring of project progress, evaluates contractor performance against key indicators, and provides a centralized database for project documents, payment certificates, and Bills of Quantities.

The Ministry noted that the fraud portal was developed in partnership with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to ensure effective tracking and follow-up of reported cases. Technical consultants also demonstrated how both platforms will function during the launch.

The government emphasized that fraudulent practices in housing estates will no longer be tolerated, warning that offenders will face strict legal action. The platforms are expected to protect citizens, rebuild confidence in the real estate sector, and ensure greater transparency in housing transactions.

This latest initiative follows earlier reforms, including the Renewed Hope Housing Online Portal launched in May 2024 to manage the marketing and sale of homes under the Renewed Hope Cities and Estate Programme. Together, these digital tools are reshaping Nigeria’s housing sector, offering citizens improved protection while promoting accountability across the industry.
