The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Nigeria has extended the registration deadline for the Computer-Based West African Senior School Certificate Examination (CB-WASSCE) for Private Candidates, 2025 Second Series.
In a statement posted on its official X (formerly Twitter) handle, WAEC announced that the new closing date is Friday, September 19, 2025. The registration had initially been scheduled to close on September 5, 2025.
“The registration period for CB-WASSCE for Private Candidates, 2025–Second Series has been extended to Friday, September 19, 2025. All prospective candidates are admonished to make good use of this opportunity,” the council stated.
The CB-WASSCE Second Series is the version of the examination conducted later in the year for private candidates, distinct from the May/June examination meant for school candidates.
The introduction of the CB-WASSCE reflects WAEC’s commitment to modernising the examination process, curbing malpractice, and aligning Nigeria’s education assessments with global standards. The council first implemented the model in 2024 using a hybrid system where questions were displayed on computer screens while candidates recorded answers using pen and paper.
Following the pilot phase, WAEC has now fully transitioned to computer-based testing for the 2025 private candidates’ examination. The council also announced that it will adopt full computer-based testing for all its examinations by 2026, with ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure, train personnel, and equip examination centres nationwide for the digital shift.
As part of its broader reforms, WAEC earlier this year launched digital preparatory platforms to help candidates get ready for the 2025 examinations. The WAEC E-Study Portal, available at waec.estudy.ng, provides access to past WASSCE questions, marking schemes, examiners’ reports, and personalised performance insights.
The council said the digital platform is designed to empower students, teachers, and schools with learning resources that reflect real examination standards while preparing candidates for the transition to fully computer-based assessments.
With the extension, WAEC is giving more private candidates an opportunity to register for the CB-WASSCE Second Series, ensuring wider participation as the council deepens its digital transformation of educational assessments across West Africa.
