Air Peace Launches Graduate Trainee Program to Create 1,000 Jobs in Nigeria
Share

Nigeria’s largest airline, Air Peace, has announced the creation of 1,000 new jobs for young graduates through its 2025/2026 Graduate Trainee Programme.

The development follows the Federal Government’s suspension of the controversial 4 percent Free on Board (FOB) levy on imported goods. The levy had sparked widespread outcry from manufacturers, importers, and customs agents, who warned that it would fuel inflation and weaken Nigeria’s trade competitiveness.

Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister for the Economy, Wale Edun, confirmed the suspension, noting that the measure was taken in response to industry concerns over its potential to disrupt economic stability and dampen investor confidence.

Chairman of Air Peace, Allen Onyema, praised President Bola Tinubu and Edun for their swift intervention, describing the decision as a lifeline for the aviation sector.

“This suspension removes a heavy burden that could have crippled airlines and triggered massive job losses. In turn, Air Peace is reciprocating this kind gesture by creating 1,000 fresh graduate jobs for young Nigerians,” Onyema said.

He added that the initiative underscores the value of government-private sector collaboration in driving economic progress.

“If further supportive measures like this come from the Federal Government, I can assure you that thousands more jobs will be created in the aviation sector. This is how partnerships can transform a nation,” he noted.

The Air Peace Graduate Trainee Programme is designed to equip graduates with practical skills, mentorship, and exposure to the aviation industry. It also aims to serve as a pipeline for building a competent workforce to sustain sector growth.

According to the airline, eligible applicants must be 30 years old or younger, possess at least a Second Class Lower (2:2) degree in any discipline from a recognized university, and hold a valid NYSC discharge, exclusion, or exemption certificate. Applicants are also expected to demonstrate adaptability and a strong willingness to learn.
