A fresh round of grassroots empowerment unfolded in Sokoto State on Sunday as Abdussamad Dasuki, the House of Representatives member representing Kebbe/Tambuwal Federal Constituency, distributed solar-powered tools, machines, and cash grants to more than 1,500 constituents.
The initiative, carried out in partnership with the Border Communities Development Agency, was held in Dogondaji, Tambuwal Local Government Area. Items shared at the event included solar-powered charging booths, solar water pumps, sewing machines, and grinding machines. Beneficiaries cut across youth, women, farmers, and small business operators, reflecting a deliberate strategy to spread the impact across multiple segments of the community.
The solar booths, handed to cooperative groups, are expected to serve as alternative energy hubs that can generate steady income for young entrepreneurs. Farmers received solar water pumps to strengthen dry-season irrigation, while women entrepreneurs were supported with sewing and grinding machines to enhance small-scale businesses.
In addition to equipment, the lawmaker provided financial backing to expand local enterprises. According to him, over 1,000 young people received grants ranging from N50,000 to N500,000, while several cooperatives secured as much as N1 million. “I believe in giving our people the resources to grow their businesses, create jobs, and secure a brighter future,” he said, stressing that small businesses remain the foundation of local economies.
Represented by his Senior Legislative Aide, Attahiru Danmadi, Rep. Dasuki explained that the intervention was designed to promote renewable energy, self-reliance, and entrepreneurship in line with his longstanding focus on grassroots-oriented solutions. “When women have the right tools and support, they not only earn income but also uplift their families and communities. This is why women remain central to every empowerment initiative I undertake,” he added.
Sunday’s distribution adds to a growing record of constituency support projects. Just two months ago, Rep. Dasuki supported 250 traders with N300,000 each to expand their small and medium-sized enterprises under the “It’s Coming” SME grant scheme. Last week, he also visited internally displaced persons in Fakku and Jabo, where he distributed relief materials to victims of bandit attacks.
Community leaders, party representatives, and women and youth groups present at the Dogondaji event described the lawmaker’s interventions as consistent and impactful. Ambassador Chika Mai Turare, who chaired the occasion, praised Dasuki’s efforts, saying his focus on empowering ordinary people demonstrates the kind of representation that strengthens democracy.
Analysts note that the emphasis on renewable energy tools such as solar charging stations and pumps is especially timely, as rural communities continue to face limited access to electricity. By investing in green alternatives alongside financial support, the initiative not only addresses immediate livelihood needs but also aligns with wider national and global goals on sustainability and energy transition.
