Lafarge Africa Plc has commissioned the Freedom Plant, a state-of-the-art ReadyMix facility in Lekki, Lagos, in a move designed to expand production capacity and drive sustainable innovation in Nigeria’s construction sector.
The plant is equipped with a fully automated batching system that allows seamless remote data transfer and management from anywhere in the world. This, the company says, will improve efficiency, reduce downtime, and ensure consistency in product quality for construction projects of varying scales.
Group Managing Director/CEO, Lolu Alade-Akinyemi, said the Freedom Plant reflects Lafarge Africa’s commitment to “Building Progress for People and the Planet.” According to him, the facility goes beyond production output by contributing to job creation, skills development, and strengthening Nigeria’s infrastructure base.
Head of Aggregates and ReadyMix, Derek Williamson, explained that the Lekki facility expands Lafarge Africa’s footprint in Lagos and complements its existing operations in Abuja and Port Harcourt. With three silos providing storage for more than two days of cementitious material, Williamson said the plant will boost volumes, improve customer service, and ensure greater product availability in Nigeria’s fast-growing construction market.
In line with Lafarge Africa’s sustainability agenda, the Freedom Plant integrates energy-efficient technologies and emission-reduction measures. It will also serve as a platform for the rollout of eco-friendly solutions, including EcoCrete, which caters to developers seeking greener and more durable building materials.
For Nigeria’s MSMEs especially small contractors and builders, the increased availability of ready-mix products could help reduce costs, improve project timelines, and open new opportunities within the construction value chain.
