Lagos Seeks Deeper China Partnership on Green Energy, Smart City Solutions
Share

The Lagos State Government has called for stronger cooperation with China in areas of green energy, smart city solutions, capacity building, and cultural exchanges as part of its drive for sustainable development.

Speaking on behalf of the state at the 76th Chinese National Day Reception in Victoria Island, Deputy Governor Dr. Obafemi Hamzat said such partnerships are central to Lagos’s vision of becoming a productive, resilient, and globally competitive city.

According to him, Lagos has already benefited from successful collaborations with Chinese institutions, companies, and investors across infrastructure, manufacturing, technology, and trade investments that continue to generate jobs and industrial growth while deepening cultural ties.

The Deputy Governor noted that China’s development story shows how vision, discipline, and shared purpose can transform a nation, adding that Lagos is drawing inspiration from such examples as it pursues its own transformational agenda.

Chairman of the House Committee on China-Nigeria Parliamentary Relations, Jafaru Yakubu, also commended the partnership, citing its contributions to infrastructure, education, trade, and technology. He reaffirmed Nigeria’s commitment to working with China in building “a community with a shared future” that promotes development, peace, and stability.

In her remarks, the Consul-General of China in Lagos, Ms. Yan Yuqing, highlighted China’s rapid growth since the 1978 reform and opening-up policy, noting its rise to the world’s second-largest economy and the leading global goods trader.
