At least 10,000 less privileged persons across Kano State’s 44 local government areas are set to benefit from a new empowerment initiative that will see each recipient receive N20,000, courtesy of the Deputy President of the Senate.
According to a statement from his media office, the selection process for beneficiaries will begin on October 9, 2025, with the distribution of application forms. The initiative is being implemented through the Barau I. Jibrin Foundation (BIJF), a charitable organisation established to support vulnerable groups and drive grassroots development.
The programme is structured to prioritise those most in need, with 6,500 beneficiaries drawn from Kano North Senatorial District, 500 from each of its 13 local government areas. Additionally, 112 individuals will be selected from each local government area in Kano Central and South Senatorial Districts.
The foundation, which has previously provided foreign postgraduate scholarships for indigent students and other support interventions, said the cash disbursement is part of broader efforts to ease economic hardship and improve livelihoods in the state.
“This is in addition to the numerous interventions in education, healthcare, agriculture, security, and transportation,” the statement noted, adding that empowering women and youth remains a central focus of the Deputy Senate President’s development agenda.
The initiative is expected to provide immediate financial relief for beneficiaries while supporting small-scale trading, household needs, and micro-enterprise activities contributing to poverty reduction and grassroots economic growth across Kano State.
