The WACSI Next Generation Internship Programme (NGIP) offers emerging civil society leaders hands-on experience in key areas like advocacy, capacity development, and knowledge sharing. It’s ideal for young graduates or early-career professionals who want to grow their skills and gain exposure across West Africa.
What You’ll Receive

A six-month internship, fully funded by WACSI.

• Round-trip flight from your home country to Accra, Ghana
• Furnished accommodation in Accra
• Lunch on working days
• A monthly stipend for living expenses -
Mentorship, training, and exposure to WACSI’s core functions: capacity development; policy influencing & advocacy; knowledge management.
Who Can Apply (Eligibility)
You should consider applying if you:

Are a young graduate or in early career (0-3 years’ experience) from a West African country (in past rounds: The Gambia, Liberia, Burkina Faso; depending on call)

Hold at least a first degree in a relevant field such as International Affairs, Political Science, Public Policy, Development Studies, Law, or related subject.

Have strong writing, communication, and organizational skills; willing to work in teams, take initiative, adapt to civil society work.

Are ready to commit full-time for six months in Accra.

What You’ll Be Doing
As an intern, you may engage in:

Designing and implementing tools and training for civil society partners

Researching policy, drafting briefs, contributing to advocacy efforts

Developing training/learning materials, reports, concept notes, modules, toolkits

Supporting event planning, budget follow-ups, stakeholder engagement, and cross-unit work at WACSI
Tips to Strengthen Your Application

Be clear about your interest in civil society: mention specific issues or policy areas you care about (e.g. governance, human rights, health, environment).

Demonstrate writing & research skills: include samples (essays or reports) that show you can analyze and communicate well.

Show adaptability: internships like this often require handling multiple tasks, so examples of doing more than one role or having versatile skills help.

If you know more than one working language (English, French, Portuguese), highlight that. It’s often an advantage.

Plan to stay the full six months: shortfalls or early withdrawal may require you to repay the costs of the package.
