NIPOST Cuts Logistics Costs for 20,000 MSMEs, Launches Digital Marketplace
Share

The Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) has announced a 15 percent reduction in logistics costs for over 20,000 Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) registered with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN).

Postmaster General and Chief Executive Officer of NIPOST, Tola Odeyemi, made the announcement in Abuja during the 2025 World Post Day celebration, themed “Post for People: Local Service, Global Reach.”

Odeyemi said the initiative is part of NIPOST’s renewed effort to support small businesses, strengthen trade logistics, and align with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda for inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

MSMEs, according to her, remain the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, contributing more than 48 percent to the GDP. “By offering a 15 percent logistics discount in partnership with SMEDAN, we are helping over 20,000 MSMEs cut costs, access wider markets, and compete more effectively in the digital economy,” she said.

She also announced the launch of the NIPOST Digital Marketplace, an e-commerce platform designed to connect Nigerian entrepreneurs with local and international customers. The platform integrates logistics, secure payments, and order management systems to simplify online sales and nationwide delivery.

“Our goal is to make it easier for small businesses and digital merchants to sell online and ship nationwide. With this platform, NIPOST is bridging the gap between local producers and global consumers,” Odeyemi explained.

Highlighting another major project, she introduced the NIPOST Agro-Infrastructure and Logistics Initiative (NAILI), aimed at improving Nigeria’s agricultural value chain by reducing post-harvest losses, enhancing traceability, and increasing market access for smallholder farmers.

Through NAILI, NIPOST will establish modular storage hubs, digital tracking systems, and logistics centers across all 774 local government areas in Nigeria. The initiative is expected to benefit more than one million smallholder farmers and 3,000 agro-MSMEs in support of the government’s priorities on food security and trade facilitation.

Coinciding with SERVICOM Week, Odeyemi reaffirmed NIPOST’s commitment to quality service delivery, transparency, and customer satisfaction. She also launched the “Face of NIPOST” brand ambassador initiative to promote the organisation’s services and deepen community engagement nationwide.

“At NIPOST, we are not just delivering parcels; we are delivering possibilities,” she said. “The postal service remains a vital force for connecting Nigeria, delivering solutions, and improving lives.”

As NIPOST joined 193 member countries of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) to mark World Post Day, Odeyemi reiterated the agency’s commitment to driving digital transformation, economic inclusion, and sustainable logistics solutions for Nigeria’s growing MSME ecosystem.
