The United Nations Global Compact has opened applications for the 2026 SDG Innovation Accelerator, a nine-month programme created to empower young professionals to design business solutions that advance the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). It is a unique opportunity for companies within the UN Global Compact network to build in-house leaders capable of driving sustainability, innovation and long-term value.
For African organisations, especially those expanding their ESG and innovation agendas, this accelerator offers access to global expertise, collaborative projects, and practical tools to turn sustainability goals into measurable business outcomes.
Key Highlights
This accelerator is open to young professionals aged 35 and below who work at companies participating in the UN Global Compact. The programme will run from February to September 2026, with applications accepted between 15 October 2025 and 31 January 2026. Participants must be high-performing individuals with strong interest in sustainability, business model innovation, or emerging technologies. They are required to dedicate a minimum of four hours monthly to coursework and attend at least four full-day workshops.
Tracks are available across in-country cohorts, an Africa Track for companies in Egypt and the Indian Ocean region, and a Global Track for participants in countries without local Global Compact offices.
Why This Matters for African Businesses and Talent
African companies are increasingly expected to deliver not only profits but purpose. Yet internal capacity for sustainability innovation is still limited. This accelerator closes that gap by equipping young professionals with skills to address real business challenges — such as climate risk, circular production, inclusive growth and responsible sourcing.
Participation strengthens a company’s reputation, prepares future leaders and supports the integration of SDGs into core strategy. Alumni often return with actionable solutions that support product development, operational efficiency or corporate responsibility commitments.
