Fintech giant OPay has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lagos State University (LASU) to support students through its N1.2 billion 10-Year Scholarship Programme, aimed at promoting educational excellence and youth empowerment.
The partnership, signed on Monday at LASU’s main campus, will see 20 students benefit annually from fully funded scholarships under OPay’s Empowering Futures Initiative, the company’s long-term Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) drive to support bright but financially constrained students across Nigerian tertiary institutions.
Speaking during the signing, Vice Chancellor of LASU, Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, praised OPay’s commitment to education and human capital development.
“This generous act underscores OPay’s dedication to fostering academic excellence and supporting the dreams of young Nigerians. The scholarship will ease financial burdens and inspire our students to strive for excellence,” she said.
The Registrar, Mr. Emmanuel Fanu, also appreciated the fintech firm for investing in young talents, noting that the initiative would have a lasting impact on beneficiaries and the wider society.
Representing OPay, Chief Operating Officer, Elizabeth Wang, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to education as a foundation for sustainable growth.
“Education is the bedrock of every society, and students represent the future. OPay is proud to sponsor 20 LASU students every year for the next decade to help them achieve their dreams,” she said.
Wang also disclosed plans for Cyberlabs and graduate employment opportunities for LASU students within OPay’s expanding workforce of over 5,000 employees, deepening the company’s investment in Nigeria’s youth.
The N1.2bn scholarship programme reflects OPay’s broader mission to empower the next generation through technology, innovation, and inclusive opportunities, strengthening its role as one of Nigeria’s most socially responsible fintech companies.
