The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has announced plans to inaugurate an upgraded and enhanced system for processing driver’s licences and vehicle number plates before the end of October 2025.
According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), the new system is designed to ensure faster processing, reduce waiting time, and improve data integrity as part of broader efforts to modernise the corps’ operations through technology.
The FRSC Corps Marshal said the enhanced production capacity will enable the agency to clear all outstanding driver’s licences before the second week of November 2025. He explained that a comprehensive plan has been activated to sustain improved output and permanently eliminate delays that previously hindered service delivery across the country.
The Corps Marshal reaffirmed FRSC’s commitment to efficiency, transparency, and timely service delivery, particularly in the issuance of driver’s licences and vehicle number plates. However, he expressed concern over the non-collection of about 206,000 printed driver’s licences currently lying unclaimed nationwide, urging applicants to visit their designated centres to collect their documents.
“We have intensified round-the-clock operations to clear the backlog of driver’s licence production across the country. Out of 800,000 backlogged licences, 400,000 have been printed, but 206,000 remain uncollected,” he said.
He noted that the significant reduction in the backlog was made possible through the commitment of FRSC staff, many of whom worked late into the night to meet targets.
The Corps Marshal commended the dedication of personnel at production centres and expressed optimism that the corps’ renewed drive will soon normalize licence production and eliminate delays entirely.
The initiative marks another step in the FRSC’s ongoing digital transformation efforts aimed at improving service delivery, accountability, and convenience for motorists across Nigeria.
