Gombe State Governor, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya, has launched the disbursement of N13.5 billion under the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) Project to expand access to quality education and promote girl-child empowerment across the state.
During the official launch in Gombe, the Governor explained that the N13.5 billion School Improvement Grant would be implemented through the School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) of 442 secondary schools. The funds, he said, are aimed at improving infrastructure, supplying learning materials, and enhancing the overall quality of teaching and learning.
Governor Yahaya recalled that under the earlier phase of the AGILE Project, his administration disbursed N726 million in conditional cash transfers and scholarships to 12,101 students, mostly girls, to encourage school attendance and relieve families of financial pressure.
“This intervention is another major step in our mission to make education accessible and equitable for every child in Gombe State, especially our girls,” the Governor stated.
He warned that his administration would not tolerate any form of diversion or misuse of the AGILE funds, stressing that accountability remains a guiding principle in the state’s operations. “These funds represent the future of our children. We will not condone any act of mismanagement, and anyone found guilty will face consequences,” he warned.
Governor Yahaya described the initiative as part of a generational vision to build a future rooted in education, opportunity, and prosperity. “We are not just meeting today’s needs but laying a strong foundation for tomorrow, where every child, regardless of gender or background, can learn, grow, and succeed,” he said.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to responsible governance, fiscal discipline, and inclusive development, emphasizing that education remains central to Gombe State’s transformation agenda.
“Through projects like AGILE, our scholarship schemes, and continuous reforms, we are empowering our young people to shape a brighter and more productive future for our state,” he said.
Supported by the World Bank, the AGILE Project focuses on improving learning opportunities for adolescent girls through community-driven interventions. The initiative continues to position Gombe as a model for inclusive, education-centered development in northern Nigeria.
