Traders and artisans in Ikorodu have received a boost to grow their businesses and strengthen their livelihoods through an interest-free loan program. The empowerment, organised by the Abdulkareem Shittu Foundation, aims to support small business growth and promote grassroots economic stability in the community.
The initiative, now in its fifth edition, provides traders, artisans, and young entrepreneurs with financial support without interest, enabling them to restock goods, expand operations, and sustain their livelihoods. Community leaders and beneficiaries praised the program for its direct impact on local economic activity.
“This is more than just a loan scheme; it’s a movement to restore hope and build economic independence. When you help a trader, you empower a family and strengthen the economy of communities,” said a representative of the foundation at the event.
Since its inception, the program has steadily expanded across Ikorodu, helping beneficiaries stabilize and grow their businesses. Mrs. Monsurat, a food vendor, described the support as transformative: “My business was collapsing. Today, I can restock and even employ one helper. This program is truly God-sent.” A young tailor added, “Getting a loan without interest is something we never imagined possible. This program has brought hope to many of us.”
Through these interest-free loans, the Abdulkareem Shittu Foundation continues to empower small business owners, strengthen local SMEs, and promote sustainable economic growth in Ikorodu.
