YOD UNESCO Launches Project D-100 to Provide Free Digital Support for Schools and SMEs Across Africa
Share

Youth Orientation for Development UNESCO has launched Project D-100, a continent-wide digital empowerment initiative designed to offer free website development, branding support, and digital capacity-building to one hundred schools and small-to-medium enterprises across Africa. The programme aims to close the digital gap that prevents many underserved institutions from accessing essential online tools needed to thrive in today’s technology-driven economy.

The initiative, unveiled under the leadership of the organisation’s president, is led by the Head of Digital Development, who developed the concept after observing how limited digital visibility continues to hinder schools, local enterprises, and community-based organisations. Project D-100 seeks to extend digital opportunities to institutions that often lack the resources to strengthen their online presence or participate effectively in the increasingly interconnected business environment.

The first phase will support one hundred schools and SMEs, while a second phase has been planned to reach an additional two hundred institutions. The long-term vision is to empower five thousand schools and enterprises across the continent, making Project D-100 one of Africa’s most ambitious community-driven digital transformation efforts. The project is powered by a team of young creatives and technology enthusiasts, with more than fifty volunteers contributing skills in web development, digital marketing, design, and content creation. The volunteer division is coordinated by the project’s volunteer lead.

The organisation noted that the project aligns with its broader mission of promoting digital inclusion, youth development, and community empowerment. Beneficiaries will receive free website creation or upgrades, social media setup and optimisation, branding support, content development, digital mentorship, and training opportunities that can strengthen their long-term visibility and competitiveness.

Registration for schools, SMEs, and volunteers is now open on the project portal at no cost. The launch of Project D-100 marks an important step in the organisation’s digital development agenda and reinforces its commitment to expanding sustainable digital access and skills across Africa.
