Julius Berger Nigeria PLC has reinforced its commitment to community development with the expansion of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives, focusing on women’s health and empowerment in Abuja and Lagos. The programs underscore the company’s dedication to building both infrastructure and stronger communities.
On Tuesday, the company partnered with the FCT Women Affairs Secretariat and the Family Peace and Women Empowerment Initiative (FAPWEI) to host the 2025 Women’s Health and Advocacy Programme in Abuja. The initiative aimed at promoting early detection and management of breast and cervical cancer, bringing together healthcare professionals, policymakers, and community representatives for awareness and sensitization sessions.
FCT Mandate Secretary for Women Affairs, Dr. Adedayo Benjamins-Laniyi, commended Julius Berger for “not only building roads, but building people and strengthening communities,” noting its significant role in advancing women’s health in line with national development goals.
Julius Berger’s Chief Risk Officer, Mrs. Shakira Mustapha, highlighted that the initiative celebrated women’s resilience while promoting preventive care and mental health. Head of Corporate Development, James Agama, added that the collaboration reinforced the company’s vision of enabling progress and prosperity. As part of the Abuja program, the firm also donated 400 bags of rice to beneficiaries, cementing its commitment to social investment.
Two days later, the initiative extended to Lagos with a women’s health program at Gbagada General Hospital. Hundreds of women from Kosofe attended sessions themed “Woman’s Reproductive Journey and the Importance of Wellness through Self-awareness and Self-preservation,” which covered menopause, pregnancy care, self-care, and included free medical check-ups. Healthcare experts, including Dr. Olutokunbo Oseni and Dr. Noimot Balogun, emphasized the importance of early detection and lifestyle awareness, praising Julius Berger’s focus on preventive care. The company also highlighted its ongoing collaboration with the hospital, including the rehabilitation of the Intensive Care Unit.
Reflecting on the program’s impact, Mrs. Mustapha said, “When you train a woman, you have trained a nation.” From Abuja to Lagos, Julius Berger’s initiatives demonstrate that the company’s legacy goes beyond engineering achievements to shaping lives, strengthening communities, and ensuring inclusive progress.
Community members, local leaders, and hospital officials celebrated the programs. Councillor Christiana Kuboye noted that the firm’s contributions extend beyond infrastructure, while physiotherapist Lanre Elegbeleye, Master of Ceremony, praised Julius Berger for its enduring reputation for excellence, responsibility, and collaboration.
