The UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network Youth Initiative is now accepting applications for the 2026 cohort of the Local Pathways Fellowship, a global program designed to equip young leaders with the skills, knowledge, and platform needed to advance Sustainable Development Goal 11 on sustainable cities and communities.
The Fellowship supports young urban planners, activists, and innovators who are shaping the future of cities. Over a 10-month period, fellows will study key urban challenges, collaborate with peers across continents, and design a project that addresses a pressing issue in their city.
Role and Responsibilities
Fellows participate in monthly activities focused on learning, project development, and global collaboration. The program includes learning about major urban issues, transforming these insights into a local SDG 11 project, connecting with a global network of more than 750 fellows from 180 cities across 80 countries, and receiving insights and mentorship through the LPF expert webinar series.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the following criteria:
• Demonstrate strong interest in sustainable development and the mission of SDSN and SDSN Youth.
• Have knowledge or experience in fields such as urban planning, sustainability, urban tech, community engagement, advocacy, or development practice.
• Possess at least one year of academic or professional experience in related fields.
• Have strong organizational, leadership, and interpersonal abilities.
• Be responsive and able to work with teams across different time zones.
• Have excellent command of English and the local language of the city they represent.
• Be able to commit the required time and maintain stable internet connectivity.
• Be between 18 and 30 years old.
Commitment
The Fellowship runs for 10 months and requires a commitment of 4 to 6 hours per week.
Conditions
The position includes a 2-month probation period and is voluntary. Fellows must complete all SDSN Youth induction and training modules and work under the supervision of the Local Pathways Fellowship Program team.
