The African Development Bank Group and Shanghai Ocean University are inviting qualified African nationals to apply for the 2026 SHOU Scholarship Programmes. This initiative, aligned with the AfDB’s Ten-Year Strategy (2024–2033), aims to develop a new generation of African specialists capable of strengthening the continent’s capacity in fisheries, aquaculture, and marine resource management.
Shanghai Ocean University is internationally recognised for its work in marine science, aquaculture, and ocean governance. With collaborations spanning more than 40 global institutions, SHOU plays a leading role in advancing sustainable aquatic development and food systems. The African Development Bank Group continues to support capacity-building efforts that promote economic growth and long-term sectoral development.

Scholarship Coverage
The scholarship provides full tuition, accommodation, meals, and a monthly stipend. Scholars will also have access to world-class faculty, state-of-the-art research facilities, and specialised training in marine and aquatic sciences. Successful candidates are responsible for their flight tickets and visa fees.
Eligibility Criteria
• Applicants must be nationals of an African country.
• Applicants must meet SHOU’s academic requirements for the programme they are applying for.
• Applicants should have a strong interest in fisheries, aquaculture, marine science, or related fields.
• Applicants must demonstrate academic excellence and a commitment to contributing to Africa’s blue economy.
• Applicants must be proficient in English, with a minimum IELTS score of 6.0 or TOEFL 80.
• Applicants must be able to meet all SHOU rules, regulations, and codes of conduct.
• Applicants must be able to cover the cost of their flights and visa fees if selected.
