Fortem Empowerment Foundation has empowered 100 students to sit for the 2025 NECO GCE examinations, marking a significant investment in expanding educational opportunities for youths in Igbanke, Orhionmwon Local Government Area of Edo State. The initiative, led by Founder and Managing Director Mrs. Ann Usiagu-Muraina, forms part of the foundation’s broader mission to advance youth empowerment and community development.
Mrs. Usiagu-Muraina emphasized the transformative power of education, saying, “Education is a tool to keep the youth engaged and a springboard to launch them to greater heights.” Beneficiaries were selected from secondary schools in the council, including Igbanke Mixed Secondary School and Omolua Secondary School.
At Igbanke Mixed Secondary School, Headteacher Mrs. Evelyn Bioseh lauded the initiative, stating, “This laudable act has given many indigent students the opportunity to write their school certificate exams without stress. The parents are elated. As they have put smiles on the faces of many, God will grant them open doors.” Beneficiary Joseph Alonge described the support as a lifeline for students facing financial barriers.
Headteacher of Omolua Secondary School, Mr. Emokpae-Ogbebo Uwagboe, commended the foundation for easing financial strain on families. “Your benevolence has lifted a great burden off families and given our students renewed hope and motivation. It is a testament to your commitment to education and youth development,” he noted. Another beneficiary, Miss Emokpae Osakpamwen, described the sponsorship as a motivating opportunity. “Your kindness has given us the chance to pursue our academic dreams with renewed hope and confidence. Thank you for giving us an opportunity to shine,” she said.
In addition to sponsoring candidates, Fortem Empowerment Foundation facilitated the establishment of a NECO examination centre at Omolua Secondary School in Igbanke. The centre is expected to reduce travel challenges for students, making participation in exams more convenient.
The foundation highlighted that both the sponsorship and the exam centre align with its commitment to supporting young people through education, mentorship, and community-focused programmes. “We believe that when students are supported, they grow into capable adults who contribute meaningfully to society. We remain committed to ensuring that no child is left behind,” the organisation said.
These interventions are projected to significantly enhance educational participation and outcomes in the Igbanke community, laying a stronger foundation for academic excellence and future opportunities.
