Student Loan Approvals Will Continue Despite Remote Work Period, NELFUND Confirms
Share

The Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) has assured students and stakeholders that student loan approvals and core operations will continue uninterrupted even during its remote work period. The announcement comes as part of efforts to maintain momentum in processing education loans for eligible Nigerian students.

NELFUND, the government-mandated body established to administer the national student loan scheme under the Students’ Loans Act, said the continuation of approval activities reflects its commitment to expanding access to interest-free loans for students across the country. This scheme is aimed at reducing financial barriers to higher education, particularly for students from low-income families.

Although details on the exact duration of the remote work period were not disclosed, the fund’s statement reassured applicants that verification, approval, and related administrative functions will proceed without delays. Students awaiting decision notices, including those whose applications have already completed verification stages, will continue to receive updates and approvals through the online portal.

NELFUND’s digital platform allows applicants to complete the loan process — from application to approval — entirely online, offering interest-free student loans with secure, fast processing and flexible repayment terms. Loans begin repayment two years after completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) service year, giving beneficiaries time to enter the workforce before financial obligations begin.

The continuation of approvals during the remote work period is expected to benefit tens of thousands of students who have applied for the 2024/2025 academic session, preventing bottlenecks at a time when access to education financing remains critical. According to external sources, NELFUND has processed and disbursed loans to hundreds of thousands of students as part of ongoing efforts to democratize tertiary education funding.

Students interested in applying or checking their loan status can access the official NELFUND student loan portal for updates and support.
